Bags of Promise at York was founded in 2025 by students who wanted to create a meaningful way for the York community to support individuals experiencing housing insecurity. The chapter exists to bring students together through hands-on service, fundraising, and community partnerships while supporting Bags of Promise’s mission of providing essential items and encouragement to people in need. As a York University chapter, we aim to turn student involvement into tangible community impact while building awareness of local housing insecurity and the importance of accessible, practical support.

Our Community
Last year, Bags of Promise at York supported 360°kids, an organization serving youth and young adults experiencing homelessness and housing instability in York Region. As part of our chapter's first service initiative, we donated 12 backpacks filled with essential items to support youth in the community.
Our partnership with 360°kids helped us better understand the importance of providing practical, accessible resources to young people experiencing housing insecurity. Moving forward, our chapter continues to focus on supporting local shelters and community organizations based on their specific needs, particularly through essential-item donations and initiatives designed to provide meaningful, direct support.

Partnerships in Action
Bags of Promise at York has built meaningful relationships with local businesses and community partners that have helped make our initiatives possible. Our most valuable partners include Steven Kim Group, a Toronto-based real estate team with a strong presence across the Greater Toronto Area, and Seacore Seafood, a family-owned Canadian seafood company based in Vaughan that has been operating since 1987. Both organizations have supported our chapter as important community partners and sponsors, helping us create opportunities for students to engage in service and fundraising.
We have also been supported by local businesses including Shawarma Royale, an Ontario-based restaurant brand with locations across the GTA, including North York, and Pinocchio's Cafe. Together, these partnerships have allowed our chapter to connect student-led initiatives with local businesses and the broader York community. Alongside our partnerships, we have organized events including the Jingle Bell Jog and a real estate panel, while continuing to build toward larger service initiatives and fundraisers.
